A new book written by a doctor with local connections may help guide parents and caregivers about what’s normal and what’s not when children’s breathing issues crop up.
“Take a Deep Breath: Clear the Air for the Health of Your Child,” by Dr. Nina Shapiro was released on Dec. 16.
“It’s really a guide on what parents should worry about and on what parents shouldn’t worry about,” said Shapiro, who is director of pediatric otolaryngology and an associate professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles. Otolaryngologists specialize in disorders of the ear, nose and throat.
Shapiro is also the sister of local otolaryngologist Dr. Adam Shapiro, who treats adult and pediatric patients in both island districts.
“The book provides a thorough review of breathing issues, differentiating the normal and abnormal for all ages, and at all levels of breathing passages,” publicity for the book states.
